During this workshop, participants will gain a good understanding of how to read and interpret space weather data, and how to plan and photograph the aurora borealis and Milky Way. Post processing will be covered for both aurora and milky way photos, as well as sessions on how to create star trail photos, and an introduction into time lapse photography.
All of our shooting locations at the refuge will require little walking, so if you are looking for a workshop where the physical demand is low and the itinerary is at a more relaxed pace than some of my more physically demanding workshops, this workshop is for you!
All photography skill levels are welcome.
Priority will be placed on maximizing our time during the night sky sessions with this special opportunity at Seney and hopefully we get clear nights every night! We will also explore Seney during the day and also photograph it at many other times including sunrise and sunset.
I will have at least one scenic daytrip scheduled during the workshop and may add more if we have any uncooperative weather during a night sky session.
Our lodging is at Pine Bluff Resort, a wonderful resort on Manistique Lake in Curtis. We will be sharing very nice cabins on Manistique Lake with porches, full kitchens, a common space with wide flat screen tv, internet, indoor and outdoor pools and spa, three people to a cabin, each participant has their own private room with single occupancy.
Registration fee covers instruction and guidance on September 26 - 29, and also includes lodging. Arrival/check in is 4pm on the 26th and departure is by 10am on the 29th.
We will be staying at and conducting the educational sessions in Curtis, Michigan at Pine Bluff Resort. Lodging details will be provided upon workshop registration. We will be eating at local restaurants in the area and each cabin also has a complete kitchen for meal prep if you wish.
We will be photographing the magnificent very dark night skies over Seney National Wildlife Refuge. This is the time of year that the Milky Way is visible as soon as it is dark enough.Hopefully we will get a favorable aurora forecast and have a chance to photograph the ever elusive northern lights as well. Nights start to cool off, and this can provide for some wonderful sunrise opportunities with the morning fog and dew (dewy spider webs galore) at Seney.
For any birders out there, we will tour the refuge as well during the day. Last year, our birder enthusiasts were fortunate to spot some white pelicans! You never know what you might see at Seney.
A complete itinerary will be sent out upon registration.
